Caribou Already Applies new EU Regulations on Illegal Content Depicting Children

Caribou sets an age limit of 18 years for visitors or residents. We apply this in an intelligent and compassionate way. If you are insecure about the age of your avatar, we discuss it, and seek a good solution. For us, this is not about size only, but much more the overall impression.

We want to help all avatars who look for a place where they can live their needs and fantasies in an exciting and welcoming environment. We are a huge and advanced adult playground. Here you find all from BDSM+ to soft love. We have no special hidden places or groups. All are welcome here.

Because we require that all avatars be 18 or over, we can make sure that all who comply with our rules and guidelines are safe.

We feel for those abused. We are against the abusers. Grooming is among the worst forms of abuse in OS and other worlds. Experienced adult avatars may collect young girl and boy and other avatars who then can end up in sexual play with others. There can even be prostitution, sex for money.

What first feels exciting can become a huge problem. To leave this kind of a life is as difficult as it can be in real life. It can mean losing both family and friends here. In Caribou you can always talk with us if you need to, and we will help you as much as we can.

We do not offer professional help, that is for real life.

In Caribou, we may react to what happens in the public space, if we see or hear that it would be necessary. And we have confidence that visitors and residents respect our few rules. We do not follow what happens in private homes unless we find out that there are illegal activities. We do respect everyones privacy.

We accept that some adults will wish to relive their younger days together. For example, two consenting adults role playing as teens in private is not really our concern, neither are we concerned over other safe and healthy love games that may enhance their own understanding of each other and build a relationship.

But please be aware that sex with underage avatars is always forbidden, this we cannot change.

Please note that we are only referring to Caribou that we operate and is our responsibility. What happens in or concerns other worlds, real or virtual, is for those platforms and individuals to decide. We have no say or administrative powers in realms beyond our own.

The real world is troubled. Wars and conflicts affect both adults and children. Homes are lost and families are broken. Children lose their parents. Many seek refuge in foreign lands.

The poorest families around the world suffer from soaring food prices. In desperation some even sell their children.

There are children who end up abused and worse. Slavery, trafficking and prostitution is more common today than we believe. Social media is widely used to draw children and teens into criminal abuse activities. This has caused western governments to intensify their action against sexual activities involving children.

New is that the legislation reaches out also to acts by adults that depict children. Our world in the Metaverse with grids, regions, sims and parcels is part of this involvement.

“Having entered into force in November 2022, the European Digital Services Act recognizes the importance of protecting children online and sets obligations for online platforms and online search engines. Thus, prompt removal of online illegal content depicting children, including sexual material shared non-consensually, is mandatory.”

(The European Council – European Union – in November 2022)

From February 2024, European and national authorities will control the legality of Internet contents. This affects our activities in Open Sims and other parts of the Metaverse. Second Life and other large service providers are already acting to remove illegal content.

Individual avatars need to be aware that they could even risk losing their access to these worlds if found to have seriously violated or violate these regulations.

We will not involve ourselves in anything that happens outside our own grid, Caribougrid, but want to share this information. These are necessary measures.

Caribou is well prepared to offer the most unregulated but also safe exciting 18+ adult environment of the OS world when the new strict legal regulations are enforced both in major grids and private URLs.  Our 64 Sims are emerging as the largest free and open adult playground ever seen in these worlds.

Caribou, today caribougrid.com, has always complied with legal requirements. We will respect and apply all obligations set for Open Sim grids. We apply also our own ethical and moral guidelines.

Directive 2011/93/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 December 2011 on combating the sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children and child pornography, and replacing Council Framework Decision 2004/68/JHA – EU monitor

Getting started in the new Caribou grid – updated on 26 July 2023

Back to main page: http://www.caribougrid.com

Caribou today is a mix from many periods of our Open Sim life.

Old Caribou is a copy of our Kitely region. Much was held by the grid management when we moved to Zetaworlds. Mainly, they wanted to protect their market. Only items set as exportable could be moved to Zw with the OAR archive files that we made.

Now I am renovating Old Caribou. I try to keep as much of the old as I can. Some neighbourhoods need to be repaired. Some of the buildings that we lost could be bought again as exportable. Some had to be replaced by new ones.

There are many parts of Old Caribou which were copied to newer Sims in earlier moves. These I am now building up again. This means less repetition across the regions.

The newer Caribou regions were transferred from ZetaWorlds as OAR files when we moved to OSgrid.

In Zetaworlds we had worked hard on creating the new Caribou. Our friend Sasha did a great work in many of the sims. We took almost all of this with us to OSgrid. Now I have been updating and repairing much of these regions. Many scripts have been changed as they did not always work in the new region.

When we created our own Caribou grid it was easier. We stayed on the same Masala servers. This meant that the move was less complicated than whehn servers had to be changed.

Now Caribou starts to be what we wanted. An adult playground with homes, second homes and hideaways for all. Here all can come who respect our Terms of Service, whatever their home grid is.

We don’t want to get Avatars to move here and leave their home grids. We respect everybody’s choice and want to be a place to enjoy alone or in company. This works well across the OS community.

I am happy that we were able to publish the contact information of our legal grid owner in the TOS of this website.

You can teleport to Caribou from any other grid and from Caribou to any OS grid that is open for all. PLease tell us about any complications.

You get to Caribou by posting this address on your world map:

hg.caribougrid.com:16002:Caribou

When here you can freely make other landmarks to any of our 64 sims.

Another way to find Caribou and many of our 16 regions  is to search for Caribou or Jeanne Lefavre on the Opensimworlds webpage and get the URL from there.

As Caribou is a very large region we want to keep it open and easily accessible. We pay much attention to the environment . Our intention is that everyone finds pleasant and interesting places to enjoy and also play. We are now coming there, step by step. A good teleport network makes it easy to move between and within our many islands.

In August we will launch the new Caribou and events on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, always at 12 PM SL time. Maybe even more days later.

Feel free to friend my new caribougrid AV.  I would love it, keeping up my old friendships and forming new.

Jeanne’s personal notes on Caribou – updated on 26 July 2023

Jeanne during happy times in Zetaworlds
Jeanne during her wonderful times in Zetaworlds

In my over 15 years online, I have seen both the best and the worst. Wonderful people and friends. Some less wonderful. Friends who helped me to start and friends that I have helped after that.

It all began as a small Second Life parcel. A box as a home, and a few trees. Learning the hard way.

All was new.

Soon, music was playing. A wonderful club world opened. We danced on the pole. Got our first tips. And friends.

I was privileged when I could add land to Caribou.

Suddenly we were neigbours with Sammy’s. The famous girl avatars club in SL. Sammy’s became my second home. I danced and chatted with my first gf littlesubje.

Sammy’s parcel owner Diane became a good friend. Then she got ill and had to leave Second Life forever.

I agreed to take over the property in Egill. Sammy’s became a part of Caribou. Our friend Zarah was the new club owner and Sammy’s became Angels.

When we tragically lost Zarah her sister Angelic came in. Now she owns and manages Angels. We formed a friendship which is strong and close ever since then.

Then we migrated together. Caríbou and Angels in our luggage, we went to Inworlds.

Soon we had four large islands and a lot of friends and life.

Then Inworldz was hit by an earthquake. The users’ community tried to save it but it collapsed financially. We lost all we had. So we packed Caribou and Angels with us, Angelic and me, and headed to Digiworldz.

Once again we built it all up. Life was good again until server lag suffocated us. We asked for help, in vain. Maybe the Caribou success was hard to accept.

So we had to take the road again.

Kitely was our choice. A new world of creators and professionals welcomed Caribou and Angels. Relations with grid owners and other residents were good. We were happy again.

Every day we invited to events. One after another we helped newcomers learn the art of party hosting. Soon they set up their own clubs. The OS world loved people trained in Caribou.

In Kitely, regions were offline until someone wanted to go there. The huge rented cloud servers took their time. We were standing in drab lifts for minutes. This did not work for us.

I then met my friend Mathilda or Mattie at one of the lively Stark clubs. Also Niki was there. Both Starks had often been in Caribou in earlier times.

Mattie and me often ended up in IM talks. A new and bold idea was born. We would create a new kind of world together. Both Stark and Caribou would be more lively and attractive.

Angelic was not too convinced but agreed that we move when she saw that I needed a change. For me, this was real  and solid friendship.

So we moved to Zetaworlds.

We built a new Caribou next to Stark.

I was motivated and worked hard on the project. Mattie and her Stark family with Manda and Niki were wonderful to me. I became a family member, partner and Mama and loved it.

But we were too fast. Some family relations got strained. Finally I had to leave.

I also found myself closed out of the whole community. Alone in an empty Caribou region I was listening to music and doing region updates.

But I had other friends in Zetaworlds. They supported me and became important during these difficult times. I will never forget you and love you all, always.

Caribou had always been a leading events site both in SL and OS.  But now the prime times in Zetaworlds were already occupied by Stark.

There were also dwindling numbers of avatars online at these times. To start from nothing would not have worked for us in this situation.

We did not want a conclict with our friends at Stark who signalled that clashing time schedules would affect our relations.

We moved to another place further away in the Zetaworlds grid.

Angelic and I finally made a difficult decision. The region left Zetaworlds. Caribou was travelling again.

Unadecal Masala and his Masala Estates were old friends. They gave us a new home in OSgrid.

From region host, Una became a dear friend. He went out of his way to help make Caribou a success, and still does.

Then we created our own Caribou grid. Our old baby needed her independence. This we now have. We have our website with terms of reference and we have a legal grid owner with a real personality and contact address. And we love to stay part of the Masala grid and region management.

Now we work on many new ideas. Caribou remains welcoming, adult and safe. We build up our events. We offer free islands and homes for residents and frequent visitors. We develop an environment which is both beautiful and interesting. We want adult avatars to come here and feel good and safe.

Angelic and I would love to have you as partners in our big adventure.

Privately I am happier today.

My two family members Christina and Yanny can begin living their own lives again. You can imagine that they love this also.

Yours Jeanne Lefavre
